What is the oxygen index of a cable that makes it flame-retardant

Nowadays, many wire and cable factories in various provinces, cities and regions are encountering a rather troublesome problem. Nowadays, the intensity of product quality supervision and inspection has been increased. In some places, the quality supervision and inspection departments themselves do not have the means to conduct bundled burning tests on wires and cables. Therefore, they are unable to perform this test on the samples of wires and cables taken from the market. As a result, the flame retardant performance of the products is judged by the size of the oxygen index of the cables. They measure the oxygen index of various combustibles in the wires and cables and then take the average value. If the average value meets the flame retardant index requirements, the product is judged as a flame retardant product; otherwise, it is an unqualified product.

In view of this situation, wire and cable manufacturers must pay close attention to the oxygen index of flammable materials in the product structure and strictly control the quality of materials entering the factory.

The corresponding relationship between the oxygen index (LOI) of the material and its flame retardancy is as follows:

LOI < 23 is flammable

LOI 24-28 is slightly flame-retardant

LOI 29-35 Flame retardant

LOI > 36 high flame retardancy
